Lajkonik Parade Krakow in Krakow

The Lajkonik Parade sends a costumed hobby-horse rider, dressed as a Tartar figure, dancing through Krakow's streets on the first Thursday after Corpus Christi. Accompanied by a standard-bearer, Vistula raftsmen and a folk band, the procession reenacts a centuries-old legend of the city being saved from a Tatar raid.

Each year, on the first Thursday after the Catholic feast of Corpus Christi, a figure dressed as a bearded Tartar rider on a hobby horse dances his way through the streets of Krakow, trailed by a standard-bearer, a band of costumed rafters, and a folk ensemble whose music keeps the procession moving.
