Literary Sopot in Sopot

Literacki Sopot is a free annual literary festival in the seaside resort town of Sopot, running since 2012, with each edition spotlighting the literature of a different country or region alongside debut Polish authors, comics, and speculative fiction programming for readers of all ages and backgrounds.

Sopot is better known internationally for its beaches, its wooden pier stretching into the Baltic, and its music festival crowds than for literature, which is partly what makes Literacki Sopot an interesting fixture on the city's summer calendar.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Organized by the Goyki 3 Art Incubator with the City of Sopot, the festival built its identity around a rotating national focus, having spotlighted Germany, the Baltic Sea region, and Romania in recent editions, giving Polish readers direct access to authors and translators from a different literary culture each year

02

The mystery stays covered

Recurring program strands cover debut writers, returning established authors, comics, and speculative fiction, while the event includes Polish sign language interpretation to remain accessible to deaf audiences

03

The city starts moving

Founded and led for over a decade by artistic director Joanna Cichocka-Gula before a 2025 leadership change, it has become one of the more distinctive stops in Poland's cluster of summer literary festivals
