The story

EnergaCAMERIMAGE in Torun

EnergaCAMERIMAGE is an international film festival devoted entirely to the art of cinematography, held each November in the historic city of Torun. Founded in 1993, it draws directors of photography, film students, and cinephiles from around the world for screenings, masterclasses, and the festival's signature Golden Frog award ceremony.

In 1993, a small screening series in Torun set out to do something no other film festival did: celebrate cinematography as its own art form, independent of directing or acting credit.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Unlike general film festivals, Camerimage exists purely to honor cinematographers rather than directors or actors, giving working directors of photography a rare spotlight

02

The mystery stays covered

Its award ecosystem is built around amphibians: the Golden, Silver, and Bronze Frog for professional entries, and the Golden, Silver, and Bronze Tadpole for the student competition, alongside the Cinematographer-Director Duo Award and a Lifetime Achievement honor

03

The city starts moving

Since 2013 the Golden Frog documentary short qualifies for Oscar consideration without a theatrical run

04

The water draws everyone in

The festival began in Torun, relocated to Lodz and then Bydgoszcz over two decades, and returned permanently to Torun's Gothic old town in 2019, giving the event a homecoming narrative that longtime attendees still discuss
