Loule Carnival in Loule
Loule Carnival is the Algarve's flagship pre-Lenten street parade, staged along Avenida Jose da Costa Mealha in Loule since 1906 and nicknamed the sambodromo louletano. Built on allegorical floats, samba schools, and a tradition of pointed political and social satire, its recent editions have centered on a superhero reimagining of the classic Portuguese caricature Ze Povinho, drawing tens of thousands over three days.
Loule's carnival is often described locally as the corso civilizado, the civilized parade, a name that captures its founding motive.
