Festival del Mundillo in Moca

Moca, home to a dedicated Mundillo Museum, celebrates its historic bobbin lace craft with the Festival del Mundillo. Mundillo, meaning little world in Spanish, is a form of handmade bobbin lace brought to Puerto Rico from Spain, worked on a cylindrical pillow using dozens to hundreds of wooden bobbins, and closely associated with Moca specifically.

The word mundillo translates loosely to little world, a reference to the cylindrical pillow that lacemakers, known as mundillistas, use to weave intricate bobbin lace by hand, one crossed thread at a time, using anywhere from two dozen to several hundred wooden bobbins depending on the complexity of the pattern.
