The story

Festival de Bonsai in Trujillo Alto

Trujillo Alto's Festival de Bonsái, held each July at the Rubén Zayas Montañez Coliseum, is billed as the island's largest bonsai and suiseki exhibition. Organized with the World Bonsai Friendship Federation affiliate WORBAC and the local bonsai association IPCC, it combines tree displays, sales, and workshops, with the most recent edition also hosting an international bonsai gathering.

Bonsai is not native to Puerto Rico, but the practice of training miniature trees has taken root deeply enough on the island to support its own dedicated festival, now in its ninth year in the municipality of Trujillo Alto.
