Garangao Qatar in Doha and Qatar neighborhoods
Garangao, also spelled Gargee'an or Qarqee'an, is a mid-Ramadan children's tradition celebrated across Doha and Qatar's neighborhoods on the 13th to 15th night of Ramadan. Children dress in traditional attire and go door to door singing for sweets and nuts, a centuries-old Gulf custom that Qatar has kept alive through neighborhood and mall-organized events alongside private household visits.
Long before shopping malls and organized events, Garangao was simply what happened on a handful of nights in the middle of Ramadan: children in a Qatari neighborhood, dressed in their best traditional clothes, moved from door to door in small singing groups, their voices asking for blessings on the family's youngest child and for the mother's continued happiness.
