Senyar Festival in Katara/sea routes
Held each spring at Katara Beach Arena, the Senyar Festival is a team-based competition reviving the traditional Qatari group fishing method that gives the event its name, paired with a parallel pearl-diving contest. Qatari-majority crews fish from dawn to sunset under strict rules on zones, species, and safety before a beachfront judging.
Long before liquefied natural gas turned Qatar into one of the world's wealthiest states per capita, its coastal towns lived by two things pulled from the sea: fish and pearls.
