Qumra in Museum of Islamic Art

Qumra is the Doha Film Institute's annual talent-development event, now past its eleventh edition, pairing closed-door mentorship for DFI-supported filmmakers with public master classes and screenings held at the Museum of Islamic Art Auditorium, alongside industry hospitality and closed project labs hosted with the Alwadi Hotel Doha, MGallery Collection.

When the Doha Film Institute launched Qumra in 2014, Qatar's film industry barely existed as an industry; a handful of local filmmakers had international festival credits, but no consistent pipeline connected Gulf storytellers to global funding, mentorship, or distribution.

Qumra's defining feature is its Qumra Masters roster, an annually rotating group of internationally recognized directors and cinematographers, past participants have included Claire Denis, Atom Egoyan, Toni Collette, Walter Salles, and cinematographer Darius Khondji, who mentor a cohort of DFI-supported projects one on one
