The story

RowmaniaFest in Tulcea

RowmaniaFEST, formally the Ivan Patzaichin Festival, is an end-of-summer event held on the Tulcea waterfront, honoring Olympic rowing champion Ivan Patzaichin, combining traditional and competitive rowing races on the Danube with a junior triathlon leg, evening concerts, documentary screenings and a fair promoting Danube Delta ecotourism to visitors and athletes alike.

RowmaniaFEST began in 2011 as a way to honor Ivan Patzaichin, a canoeist from the Danube Delta who became one of Romania's most decorated Olympians, and to use his legacy to draw attention to the delta itself.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The festival is built around a specific figure, Ivan Patzaichin, a multiple Olympic, world and European canoeing champion from the Danube Delta region, and uses rowing itself, including traditional wooden delta boats, as both sport and cultural symbol

02

The mystery stays covered

Since 2013 it has also hosted a national and European junior triathlon leg, giving it a competitive sporting dimension beyond a cultural celebration

03

The city starts moving

Its underlying goal, explicitly stated by organizers, is to promote the Danube Delta as an ecotourism destination, so the festival pairs athletic competition with documentary film, a fair and public debates on conservation rather than functioning purely as a sports meet
