Chukotka Native Language Festival in Anadyr/Provideniya
Spanning nearly a full year rather than a single weekend, Chukotka's Festival of Native Languages opens each February in Anadyr on International Mother Language Day and closes the following autumn, weaving together mini-festivals, poetry evenings, and folklore events across the region. Organized by the community group Chychetkin vetgav, or Native Word, it rotates emphasis between the peninsula's indigenous languages, with folklore ensembles from communities such as Providenia taking part throughout.
Most language-preservation efforts happen quietly, in classrooms or family kitchens, one word taught to one child at a time.
