The story

Miss Ethno Astrakhan Festival in Astrakhan

A youth pageant in Astrakhan, now in its fifteenth year, where contestants compete not as themselves but as representatives of a specific ethnicity, presenting national costume, a Russia-themed opening walk and a closing wedding-dress procession. The 2026 edition drew 22 competitors covering Russian, Kazakh, Tatar, Armenian, Jewish, Korean and other heritages, reflecting the multi-ethnic makeup of Russia's Volga delta region.

Astrakhan crowns a new Miss Ethno most years at the Arkadiya sports and cultural complex, in a youth pageant built entirely around national costume rather than conventional beauty-contest formats.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Each contestant is assigned or chooses a distinct national culture, from Nogai and Dagestani to Japanese and German, and researches its costume and customs before presenting it on stage, turning the pageant into a structured survey of Astrakhan's ethnic diversity rather than a standard beauty contest

02

The mystery stays covered

The program includes a symbolic Russia-costume opening segment and a wedding-dress finale drawn from varied cultural traditions, both distinctive to this festival's format among Russian regional pageants
