Amur Autumn Film and Theatre Festival in Blagoveshchensk
Amur Autumn is an international festival of theatre and film held each September in Blagoveshchensk, a Russian Far East city on the Amur river directly across from the Chinese city of Heihe. Running since the 1990s, it brings touring theatre companies and film screenings to one of Russia's more geographically remote regional capitals.
Blagoveshchensk occupies an unusual position among Russian regional capitals: it sits directly on the Amur river across from Heihe in China's Heilongjiang province, close enough that the two cities' skylines face each other across the water, making the international border a visible daily fact of life rather than an abstraction.
