Gerber Udmurt National Festival in Glazov District
Gerber marks the end of spring planting in Udmurt tradition, a midsummer festival whose name translates roughly to plow's end. Revived in 1992 after decades of Soviet-era suppression, the celebration in Glazov District draws several thousand visitors from across Udmurtia and beyond for a day of folk costume, song, dance and games rooted in older agrarian rites once tied to prayers for a good harvest.
There is a particular kind of relief built into the word Gerber.
