Baikal International Film Festival Man and Nature in Irkutsk
The Baikal International Film Festival Man and Nature, held in Irkutsk since 1999 and named in memory of writer Valentin Rasputin, is a documentary, science, animation and feature-film competition built around humanity's relationship with the natural world. Its most recent confirmed edition, the 24th, ran 22 to 30 September and drew roughly 240 submissions from 39 countries, shortlisting 34 films for a grand prize of 500,000 rubles.
Irkutsk has served as the traditional gateway to Lake Baikal for centuries, the last major city travelers pass through before the taiga opens onto that vast body of water.
