Voroniy Day Ob-Ugric Spring Festival in Khanty-Mansiysk
On the first Saturday of April, Khanty and Mansi families gather near Khanty-Mansiysk to welcome the crow, the messenger of spring in Ob-Ugric belief, by hanging colored ribbons and small food offerings in birch branches. Women and children lead round dances and folk singing in the old Khanty and Mansi languages, marking a festival now recognized as part of the region's intangible cultural heritage.
Spring comes slowly to western Siberia.
