KronFest Ecological Arts Festival in Kronstadt
KronFest is an international ecological arts festival held annually in Kronstadt since 2008, initiated by the Kronstadt History Museum. It pairs contemporary art with environmental themes, staging exhibitions, workshops and installations across the museum, other indoor venues and the historic sea forts that ring the island fortress town.
Kronstadt occupies Kotlin Island in the Gulf of Finland, a naval stronghold founded by Peter the Great whose ring of sea forts once made it one of the most heavily defended and least publicly accessible places in the Russian Empire and later the Soviet Union.
