Moscow International Film Festival in Moscow

The Moscow International Film Festival, known as MIFF or ММКФ, is one of the world's oldest film festivals, first held in 1935 and running as a regular annual event since 1999. Under president Nikita Mikhalkov, it screens international and Russian cinema with red-carpet premieres, competition programs, and director talks across Moscow venues.

When the Soviet Union staged its first film festival in Moscow in 1935, under the chairmanship of Sergei Eisenstein and screening 65 films from nine countries, it was conceived as a one-time showcase rather than the start of a recurring institution.
