Dances Over Elbrus International Folklore Festival in Nalchik
Nalchik's international folklore festival, Dances Over Elbrus, gathers dance and music ensembles from across the Caucasus, southern Russia, and further abroad each spring, with past editions drawing groups from as far as Turkey, France, India, Iran, and Italy. Concerts run free of charge across several venues over four days, anchored by the Nalchik State Musical Theatre, turning the Kabardino-Balkaria capital into a stage for folk traditions from around the world.
Dances Over Elbrus matters because it presents Caucasus identity through movement: discipline, courtship, memory, mountain pride and the body as archive.
