Flahertiana Documentary Film Festival in Perm

Flahertiana is an international documentary film festival held annually in Perm, named after American documentary pioneer Robert Flaherty. Founded in 1995 by filmmaker Pavel Pechenkin, it screens a juried competition of Russian and international non-fiction films alongside retrospectives and master classes, drawing documentary directors, critics and film students each autumn.

Robert Flaherty's 1922 film Nanook of the North is usually credited as the first feature-length documentary to build a sustained, intimate portrait of its subjects rather than simply recording events.
