Perm White Nights Festival in Perm

Belye Nochi (White Nights) is Perm's flagship summer open-air festival, staged on the city's central Esplanade square across several weeks each summer with theater, music, art installations and workshops. It grew out of the 2010s Perm Cultural Revolution policy period that repositioned the city as a contemporary-arts destination.

Perm's transformation into an unlikely contemporary-arts hub began in the late 2000s and early 2010s under the regional cultural policy popularly known as the Perm Cultural Revolution, a period when the regional government, working with gallerist Marat Gelman and others, poured resources into public art, design and new museum spaces as a deliberate strategy to reposition an industrial Ural city as a cultural destination.
