The story

Plyos Dachny Festival in Plyos

The Dachny Festival, formally the Chaliapin Dacha Festival, is an annual classical and popular music festival held in Plyos, a small Volga River resort town in Ivanovo Oblast, since 2015, bringing opera singers, orchestras, and other performers to open-air and indoor venues across the town each summer.

Plyos is a small town on a bend of the Volga in Ivanovo Oblast that punches well above its size in Russian cultural memory, mostly because of a few intense summers in the late 1880s when the landscape painter Isaac Levitan lived and worked there, producing paintings, including Evening Bells and Golden Autumn, that remain among the most recognized works of Russian landscape art.
