The story

Port Art Fair in Saint Petersburg

Port Art Fair is an independent contemporary art fair held each spring at Sevkabel Port, a converted industrial waterfront complex in Saint Petersburg. Now in its fourth edition, it gathers dozens of galleries and independent artists from Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Russia's regions to show painting, sculpture, installation and digital media across four days.

Sevkabel Port occupies the site of a Soviet-era cable manufacturing plant on the western edge of Vasilyevsky Island, where Saint Petersburg's built environment gives way to open views across the Gulf of Finland.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The fair's venue, Sevkabel Port, is itself part of its identity: a former Soviet-era cable factory on the Gulf of Finland waterfront that has been repurposed into one of Saint Petersburg's leading independent creative spaces

02

The mystery stays covered

Unlike institutionally backed art fairs tied to major museums, Port Art Fair positions itself as an independent platform, giving smaller galleries and unaffiliated artists from outside the capital equal footing alongside Moscow and Saint Petersburg exhibitors

03

The city starts moving

Each edition organizes around a curatorial theme

04

The water draws everyone in

its 2026 edition, titled Blank, built its roughly ninety participating galleries and artists around ideas of the empty page and open possibility as a curatorial lens for new work across painting, graphics, sculpture, installation and digital media

Casual gallery-going attire works well; the venue is an industrial waterfront complex with concrete floors and open-air sections, so comfortable shoes are useful for a full day of walking...

Safety

For Port Art Fair, keep the basics simple: small bag, charged phone, meeting point and respect for crowd controls.
