Scarlet Sails in Saint Petersburg

Scarlet Sails is Saint Petersburg's annual graduation celebration, staged on the Neva River each late June as the city's schoolchildren finish their exams. A tall ship rigged with illuminated crimson sails sails past the Winter Palace embankments at night, accompanied by fireworks, water effects and a live concert, drawing crowds that can reach into the hundreds of thousands.
