Soul of the North Bone-Carving Art Festival in Salekhard gives artists three days to create original works on an assigned theme, carving mammoth tusk, moose or reindeer antler, and walrus tusk into finished pieces in front of visitors. Young carvers from Yamal, roughly twelve to fifteen years old, take part as students alongside established bone-carving masters, keeping the craft's future visibly present.
