Elena the Beautiful Name Day Fairy-Tale Festival in Shadrinsk
Every 7 June, Shadrinsk in Kurgan region celebrates the Name Day of Elena the Fair, a fairy-tale festival built on the town's documented link to the Frog Princess story, recorded here more than a century and a half ago by folklorist Alexander Zyryanov. The day opens at the town's central library with a theatrical retelling, followed by fifteen or more interactive stops including Elena's post office, a Frog Princess museum, and a Shadrinsk gingerbread show.
Most fairy tales float free of any specific address, but Shadrinsk, a modest town in Kurgan region, can point to real documentation tying it to one of Russian folklore's most familiar stories.
