Skopin Pottery Festival in Skopin
Skopin's international pottery festival brings roughly 230 ceramicists from Russia and Belarus to this Ryazan region town every couple of years, celebrating a glazed figural pottery style whose distinctive technique was reportedly learned in secret by nineteenth-century potter Fyodor Ovodov. Programming spans Lenin Street, the Skopin Artistic Ceramics Factory, the Palace of Culture and the local history museum over three days in mid-August.
Skopin ceramicists open their workshops to roughly 230 visiting craftspeople every couple of years for an international pottery festival built around a distinctive glazed style with a smuggled-technique origin story.
