Smolensk Fortress Historical Festival in Smolensk
Smolensk stages a military-historical reenactment festival each September at the Eagle Tower along its sixteenth-century fortress wall, recreating the 1654 siege in which Russian forces under Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich retook the city from Polish-Lithuanian control. Alongside the staged battle, the three-day program includes period craft workshops, weapons-handling demonstrations and photo opportunities set against the historic fortress wall itself.
Smolensk's Eagle Tower becomes a staged battlefield each September for Smolensk, Shield City.
