Kanitel International Craft Festival in Sputnik
Along the riverside Sputnik microdistrict embankment in Penza, craftspeople from around 160 cities across Russia and neighboring countries gather each year for Kanitel, an international festival of creativity and handicrafts named after a traditional gold-thread embroidery technique from the Penza region. The festival uses a bird of happiness as its symbol and has run for more than a decade.
Penza is not the first place most people think of when they picture international craft fairs, yet along the riverside embankment of its Sputnik microdistrict, the Kanitel festival has quietly built exactly that kind of reach.
