The story

Suzdal Animation Festival in Suzdal

Suzdalfest is Russia's largest professional animation showcase, open only to animated works made in Russia or Belarus or by their citizens working abroad. Founded in 1996 and based in Suzdal since 2002, it runs every March, with the 31st edition held March 18-23, 2026, drawing more than two thousand industry participants.

Russian animation has a distinct professional lineage running back through Soviet studios like Soyuzmultfilm, and by the mid-1990s that industry needed a dedicated national showcase separate from general film festivals.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Unlike general-audience animation festivals, Suzdalfest is built as a working industry forum: entry is restricted to films made in Russia and Belarus or by citizens of those countries working elsewhere, so the program functions as an annual state-of-the-industry survey rather than an international competition

02

The mystery stays covered

Screenings, juried competitions and business meetings run in parallel at the GTK Suzdal cultural center and other town venues, alongside a hybrid online platform, Suzdalfest

03

The city starts moving

Online, that extends access to viewers and professionals who cannot travel to the small Golden Ring town for the week
