Anniversary of the Arengo in Citta di San Marino
The Anniversary of the Arengo, marked every twenty-fifth of March, is San Marino's national holiday commemorating the historic 1906 Arengo, a mass assembly of heads of families that reformed the republic's constitution, paired with the traditional Festa delle Milizie and observed with a free morning civic ceremony in the historic center.
Long before San Marino had anything resembling a modern parliament, it governed itself through the Arengo, an assembly in which the head of every family in the republic could gather and vote directly on matters of state.
