Festival d'Abene in Abene
The Festival d'Abene, also called Abene Festivalo, is Casamance's best-known year-end cultural gathering, held on the beaches of Abene village from late December into the new year. Now past its thirtieth edition, it brings together Diola, Mandinka, Karone and Balanta communities for dance, music and shared celebration.
Abene is a small beach village in lower Casamance, close to the border with Gambia, and for three decades it has hosted what has become the region's signature cultural festival, running each year from December 26 through January 2 under the name Festival d'Abene, also known locally as Abene Festivalo.
