Xooy Divination Ceremony in Fatick/Sine

The Xooy, also spelled Xoy or Khoy, is a genuine, UNESCO-listed Serer divination ceremony held annually near Fatick, in which hereditary priest-diviners called saltigues deliver public predictions on weather, politics, and health, marking the start of the Serer new year shortly before the rainy season begins.

The Xooy is one of the most genuinely well-documented and internationally recognized traditional ceremonies in this entire region, standing apart from many of the uncertain or unverifiable festival names researched alongside it.
