The story

Festival de Ndioum in Ndioum

A real festival did exist under a similar name, the Festival International de Ndioum, confirmed through at least a second edition planned for December 2012, but that edition was cancelled after a visiting artist suffered a fatal medical emergency, and no further editions were found, suggesting the international festival is effectively defunct today.

Ndioum is a real town in the Podor department of Saint-Louis region, sitting within the Fuuta Tooro along the Senegal River, with a population recorded around 20,270 in 2023.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Ndioum also hosts a separate, still-referenced Journees Culturelles de Ndioum, a three-day event held in June according to travel-guide listings, distinct from the now-apparently-discontinued international festival

02

The mystery stays covered

Ndioum has additionally served as a co-host location alongside Podor for at least one edition of Baaba Maal's Blues du Fleuve festival, linking the town to the region's most prominent ongoing river-valley cultural event
