BITEF in Belgrade
BITEF, the Belgrade International Theatre Festival, was established by the Belgrade City Assembly in December 1967 and has run every September since, focused on avant-garde and experimental theatre. Initiated by Mira Trailovic and Jovan Cirilov, it became one of Europe's first curated theatre festivals and one of the most important stages for experimental performance during the Cold War.
