The story

Kaleidoscope of Culture Novi Sad in Novi Sad

Kaleidoscope of Culture launched in 2018 as a flagship legacy project of Novi Sad's European Capital of Culture 2022 title, running five weeks each autumn across five art forms in the city's renovated Cultural Stations venues. Its 2022 edition featured Vienna's Burgtheater and violinist Julian Rachlin, and the festival continued into at least its seventh edition in 2024.

Novi Sad spent years preparing for its turn as European Capital of Culture in 2022, and one of the lasting results of that preparation was Kaleidoscope of Culture, first staged in 2018 as a pilot for what would become one of the city's two flagship annual programme arches, the other being its New Year celebration known as Docek.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Kaleidoscope of Culture was purpose-built as one of two flagship programme arches of Novi Sad's European Capital of Culture 2022 title, structured around a distinct format: five weeks, five art forms, spanning architecture, literature, performing arts, visual arts, and applied arts in a single autumn programme

02

The mystery stays covered

It is staged across the Cultural Stations, a network of renovated industrial and cultural spaces created specifically for the ECoC year, giving the festival venues unlike a conventional theatre or gallery circuit

03

The city starts moving

Its flagship 2022 edition brought Vienna's Burgtheater and violinist Julian Rachlin to Novi Sad alongside a major exhibition of painter Sava Sumanovic's work, and the festival was named Best European Trend Brand in culture at a Dresden ceremony in November 2021
