The story

Palic European Film Festival in Palic

The European Film Festival Palic, established in 1992, is one of the few festivals in the world screening exclusively European cinema. Held each July at the Palic lake resort near Subotica, it presents over a hundred films across sections such as the Official Selection and Young Spirit of Europe, awarding the Golden Tower for best film.

Palic is a small lake resort a few kilometers from Subotica in Serbia's northern Vojvodina region, better known through most of the year for its art nouveau bathhouse and lakeside walks than for cinema.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

What distinguishes the European Film Festival Palic among Serbian cultural events is its singular programming rule: it screens only European films, a niche few festivals worldwide commit to fully

02

The mystery stays covered

Set at the lakeside resort of Palic beside Subotica, in Serbia's ethnically mixed Vojvodina region, the festival runs more than a hundred films across named sections including the Official Selection, Young Spirit of Europe, Parallels and Encounters, and a New Hungarian Film program reflecting the area's Hungarian minority culture

03

The city starts moving

Its main prizes, the Golden Tower for best film and the Palic Tower for best directing, are judged by international juries, and the festival is listed by the European Festivals Association, giving it a standing among European art-house festivals well beyond Serbia's borders
