Corpus Christi Processions in Victoria
Corpus Christi is one of Seychelles' official Catholic public holidays, observed on a movable date determined by the church calendar. Parishes across Mahe, including those in and around Victoria, mark it with a special Mass and, in keeping with regional Catholic practice, an outdoor procession of the Blessed Sacrament near the parish church.
Seychelles inherited its Catholic calendar from French colonial settlement beginning in the 1770s, when planters and the enslaved and free Creole population that formed the basis of modern Seychellois society were baptised into the Catholic church that remains the majority faith today.
