Roots to Rise is the kind of cultural gathering where the useful story begins with place, timing and the way people move through the day. On the ground, the strongest plan starts with the rhythm of the event: public programming, local crowds and the small rituals around arrival, food and movement.
Not every entry on Sierra Leone's event calendar centers on music, masquerade, or food; Roots to Rise, organized in Freetown by the Salone Cooperative Union, takes a different approach entirely, building its program around capacity, opportunity, and economic participation rather than performance.
