Pust Cerknica Carnival in Cerknica

Pust v Cerknici is a week-long Shrovetide carnival organized by the Pustno drustvo Cerknica, during which the town takes on the nickname Butale, after the thick-headed satirical characters from Fran Milcinski's stories. Local legend holds that witches led by Ursula descend from Slivnica peak above the intermittent Lake Cerknica to join the festivities, alongside figures like Jezerko and a giant pike.
