The story

Fabula Festival in Ljubljana

Fabula Festival is a short-prose literature festival held every spring in Ljubljana, hosted by Beletrina Academic Press alongside its sister event, Days of Poetry and Wine. It is closely associated with the Fabula Award, given annually since 2006 by the newspaper Dnevnik for the best Slovene short-prose collection published in the preceding two years.

Fabula Festival exists in the shadow of a prize.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Fabula Festival's central connection is to the Fabula Award, a cash prize given since 2006 by the national newspaper Dnevnik to the best Slovene short-prose collection published in the previous two years, with the award skipped only once, in 2013

02

The mystery stays covered

Laureates have included Nejc Gazvoda in 2006, Katarina Marincic in 2007, Marusa Krese in 2008, Vesna Lemaic in 2010, and Dusan Cater in 2012, tracing a lineage of notable Slovenian short-prose writers

03

The city starts moving

The festival is hosted by Beletrina Academic Press, the same institution behind Days of Poetry and Wine, and it should not be confused with an unrelated Ljubljana film production company that also uses the name Fabula, nor with a generic academic journal of the same name
