Festival of Slovenian Film in Portorož
The Festival of Slovenian Film is Slovenia's premier national cinema showcase, held each October at Avditorij Portoroz. Its roots trace to the 1973 Slovene Film Week in Celje, later the Slovene Film Marathon, before relocating to Portoroz after independence. The festival awards the Vesna Awards, named for the heroine of the 1955 film Vesna, across categories including Best Film and Best Director.
The Festival of Slovenian Film did not begin in Portoroz, and it did not begin with that name.
