Cape Town Pride in Cape Town
Cape Town Pride is an annual LGBTQIA+ pride event held in Cape Town each year since 1993, centered on a parade through the De Waterkant neighbourhood. Traditionally held on a Saturday in early March, it includes a march along Somerset Road starting at the Rainbow Crosswalk, a Mardi Gras, and a week of associated parties and events.
South Africa's first LGBTQIA+ pride parade took place in Johannesburg in October 1990, organized by the Gay and Lesbian Organisation of the Witwatersrand as the apartheid era was ending, the first such event held anywhere on the African continent.
