The story

Greyton Art Walk in Greyton

Greyton Art Walk is an annual open-studio art trail through the Western Cape village of Greyton, now in its 9th edition. Over a late-November weekend, visitors follow a self-guided route through local artists' home studios, galleries, restaurants and cafes, with a treasure-hunt element layered on top of the art trail itself.

Greyton is a small village cradled in the foothills of the Riviersonderend Mountains, the kind of place estate agents and tourism boards like to call picturesque, and in 2021 it earned an official confirmation of that reputation when it was named Town of the Year.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The Art Walk is built specifically around Greyton's physical character, its cobbled streets set in the foothills of the Riviersonderend Mountains, and turns the whole village into the exhibition space rather than concentrating art in a single gallery

02

The mystery stays covered

It layers a genuine treasure-hunt game (the Greyton Art Walk Treasure Hunt) onto the studio trail, and its listed participant directory shows artists working across painting, macrame and mixed media, drawn not just from Greyton itself but neighbouring towns including Hermanus, Kleinmond, Strand and Cape Town, giving the event a wider Western Cape artist network despite its small -village setting

03

The city starts moving

Greyton itself was named Town of the Year in 2021, reinforcing the village's own claim to being an arts destination
