Scifest Africa in Makhanda

SciFest Africa is South Africa's national science festival, held annually in late March or early April in Makhanda (formerly Grahamstown), Eastern Cape. Launched in 1997 as the first festival of its kind on the African continent, it presents lectures, workshops, exhibitions and shows aimed at making science, technology, engineering and mathematics accessible to the public.

In 1997, the Grahamstown Foundation launched what became the first science festival held anywhere on the African continent, in the small Eastern Cape university town then known as Grahamstown and now, following its 2018 renaming, called Makhanda.
