Innibos National Arts Festival in Mbombela
The Innibos National Arts Festival is one of South Africa's major Afrikaans-language arts festivals, held annually in Mbombela (formerly Nelspruit), the capital of Mpumalanga province. First staged in the mid-2000s, it presents theatre, comedy, cabaret and music, and has grown a family of spin-off events, including a dedicated book weekend, the Innibos Boekenaweek, held separately at nearby Kaapschehoop.
Mbombela, known as Nelspruit until its 2009 renaming, is the capital of Mpumalanga province in South Africa's Lowveld, a subtropical region better known internationally as a gateway to the Kruger National Park than as an arts-festival hub.
