Andong International Mask Dance Festival in Andong
An autumn festival split across two sites: Andong Mask Dance Park in the city center for international troupes, parades and workshops, and Hahoe Folk Village for daily performances of Hahoe byeolsingut talnori, a UNESCO-listed mask dance drama. Now in its fourth decade, it centers on Korean talchum tradition while inviting mask performers from other countries to share the stage.
Andong splits its identity in two each autumn: a modern city-center park hosting international performers, and Hahoe Folk Village, a UNESCO World Heritage site forty-five minutes away, hosting the specific mask dance drama that gives the festival its meaning.
