Gwangju Chungjang Festival in Gwangju
A downtown revival festival in Gwangju's Dong-gu district, built around nostalgia for Chungjang-ro's heyday as the city's commercial and cultural hub in the 1970s and 1980s. Held each October since 2004, it fills the street with retro-styled decor, parades, era-appropriate concerts, flour-fight games, and flea markets, aiming to draw shoppers and memories back to an old downtown eclipsed by newer districts.
Chungjang-ro was Gwangju's beating commercial heart through the 1970s and 1980s, the street where fashion, cinema, and youth culture in South Jeolla Province all seemed to converge.
