The story

Seoul Drum Festival in Seoul

A two-day percussion festival at Dongdaemun Design Plaza pairing Korean traditional drumming with international acts and a citizen-performed parade. Running since 1999, it mixes concert-style headline sets with hands-on workshops in finger drumming, handpan and body percussion, drawing families and music fans for a free spring weekend built around rhythm.

Percussion of every kind fills the plaza outside Dongdaemun Design Plaza each May, when the Seoul Drum Festival brings together Korean and international drummers for two days of rhythm-driven performance.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The festival's open-call citizen parade is its most distinctive feature: everyday Seoul residents audition, rehearse for months with professional artist groups, and then perform alongside them in a full percussion procession, closing the event as amateurs turned momentary headliners

02

The mystery stays covered

Its workshop lineup regularly includes internationally recognized session drummers, giving hobbyists a rare shot at direct instruction

03

The city starts moving

Free general admission and a central, subway-adjacent venue make it one of the more accessible music festivals on Seoul's calendar, and the mix of concert stage and craft-fair drum vendors keeps both listeners and players engaged throughout the two-day run
