Juba Film Festival in Juba
The Juba Film Festival is South Sudan's annual celebration of homegrown cinema, founded in 2016 by filmmaker Simon Bingo. Held in Juba, a city without established movie theaters, the festival screens films by local and regional filmmakers, provides filmmaking training, and draws thousands of attendees each year.
Juba has no established cinemas, yet each year thousands of people gather for the Juba Film Festival, an event that has effectively built a film-viewing culture in a city where the infrastructure for one did not previously exist.
